This richly illustrated documentary book paints a portrait of British soldiers in the Great War through their everyday environment. Progressing chronologically through the years of the conflict, it describes the evolution of uniforms and equipment, as well as new materials, recruitment and unit morale, initiatives for living and surviving on the battlefield, and support from the home front. 

In this final year of the Centenary, this book offers the French public a faithful picture of the Tommy, companion of our poilus, for the first time.
