Fifinella T-Shirt

This historically inspired T-shirt features Fifinella, her story began in 1942 when Roald Dahl, who had been suspended from the Royal Air Force (RAF) due to an injury, wrote *The Gremlins*, a fairy tale about the dangers of combat flying. In this version, the word ‘fifinella’ refers solely to female gremlins and not to any particular gremlin. As a pilot, Dahl was familiar with pre-war RAF folklore about the Gremlin, the mischievous source of all unknown mechanical problems.

For a film project based on Roald Dahl’s book, The Gremlin, Walt Disney created the character of Fifinella. During the Second World War, the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) requested permission to use the character as their official mascot, and the Disney company granted them the rights.
