Upon learning of the discovery at a flea market of a mysterious album containing 377 photographs taken clandestinely in Paris and its suburbs between 1940 and 1942, Philippe Broussard, a journalist at Le Monde, embarked on a dizzying investigation to try to identify the author.

For four years, he scrutinised every clue, followed more or less reliable leads, and gradually uncovered the truth behind this tragic story, which was unknown to specialists in the Occupation and the Resistance.
