Throughout the conflict, all Axis member countries used a large number of handguns. Most of these were standard issue weapons, manufactured locally or purchased abroad, as well as weapons acquired from neutral countries such as Spain.
Finally, territorial conquests enabled the requisitioning of the defeated countries' production facilities and the seizure of their weapons! The Axis forces thus used some five million handguns until 1945.
