The DUKW was an amphibious transport vehicle, mainly used by the US Army during the Second World War. Production began in 1942. It was based on the design of a GMC truck, and had an additional mechanism that enabled it to move on both land and water. It had a characteristic flat bow that facilitated flotation. The DUKW was widely used for sea landings, land operations and transport in flooded areas. Its ability to move on both water and land made it a highly versatile vehicle in combat conditions. The vehicle is powered by a powerful gasoline engine, and has a top speed of around 80 km/h on land and 10 km/h in water. It can accommodate up to 25 people or 2.25 tons of freight. After the end of the Second World War, the DUKW continued to be used by American troops in conflicts such as the Korean and Vietnam wars. It was also exported to other countries and used for civilian purposes such as marine tourism and rescue.

The DUKW is considered an icon of the Second World War.
